Soil moisture classes show to which extent the position of the groundwater table affect trees, ground cover and soil type formation. Soil moisture class is determined as the mean level of the position of the groundwater table during the growing season. In field the position of the groundwater table is determined mainly from topography, and from ditches, wetlands and watercourses in the landscape. Soil moisture is classified as dry, mesic, mesic-moist, moist or wet soil.
