Last spring frost

Map showing the last spring frost

Map showing the last spring frost. Average date for last day with minimum temperature below 0ºC, 1961-1990.

Isoplethes for the last spring frost closely coincide with those for the length of the growing season. In southern Sweden along the west coast and the big lakes Vänern and Vättern the last spring frost occurs relatively early, whereas the influence from continental climate causes relatively late frosts in the interior upland parts (Småländska höglandet). Along the eastern coast the Baltic exert a similar influence at the outermost coastal strip, while areas less close to the coast have late spring frosts. In northern Sweden the date for the last spring frost follows latitude and altitude. Influence from westerly winds cause relatively early end of spring frosts in the area around Storsjön (in the province of Jämtland, northern Sweden).
